Everything from the rhythms to the harmonies of American popular music can be traced to the folk forms of West Africa. From Libera to the worldwide stage, FATi has the “QUEEN” of AfroPop. Directed by Wafeeq, “QUEEN” is both a statement of African pride and feminist solidarity.
Songs like the romantic ballad “L.O.V.E. Love” have helped FATi tear up the music scene in Kenya, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast. Wafeeq and Keith directed the “L.O.V.E. Love” music video, and here, we see FATi at her most sultry and her most soulful.
Chris Watt, who makes music as Fire Follows, as defeated the odds in more ways than one: first, he overcame surgery for a paralyzed vocal chord; and he also broke out into the hard rock / metal scene in Denver as a solo musician. He partnered with Kreation Films & Leland Schmidt to direct the video for “Loaded Gun” from his debut EP If It’s War You Want. The video is delicate but industrial in both its lyrics and its aesthetic, and ultimately shows Watt feeling unstoppable.
A message of unity isn’t an easy one to spread, but LA newcomer Meddie Bloom believes in togetherness so strongly that it’s exactly what he portrays on his debut single, “Time To Live.” The video for “Time To Live” was directed by Pasha Teplo; shot in a barren desert, he taps into some serious Method Acting, giving the clip an organic feel.
Sean McMorris has made music with several icons, including drumming for Richard Lloyd. For his third album, C’est La Vie, he brought on XTC’s Dave Gregory for some guitar lines. “Vortex” is hooky, high-energy rock, but it’s also a timeless classic with a rock-solid pop framework. Directed by McMorris himself, the “Vortex” video is kaleidoscopic and a bit trippy, as a flight attendant appears to welcome you, the viewer, to the future.
Can’t get enough of Sean McMorris? We’re also sharing his video for C’est La Vie‘s title track, which he once again directed. “C’est La Vie” is another instantly memorable guitar-driven gem that’s also emotionally weighted and delicately crafted.
