Hello fellow music lovers, it’s Andy Gesner and the HIP crew bringing you yet another exceptional reel of Polyvinyl Record Co. music videos! You last saw of Montreal’s “Coquet Coquette” and Casiokids’ “Finn Bikkjen!” And now to round it all out, we’ve got new videos from Deerhoof, of Montreal, Vivian Girls and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, who have brought us a stellar clip in “Sink / Let It Sway”.

It’s been about two years since we last worked with SSLYBY, but that doesn’t mean we don’t remember how big of an impact their last couple videos left. Their brand new video for “Sink / Let It Sway” has proven to be no different, and you’ll find yourself just trying to catch up with this fast-paced band.

Shot on location in the band’s hometown of Springfield, MO, the video starts off with individual members of SSLYBY in caricatured masks who barge out of a dark room and run into the streets. They keep running and running, as if they’re trying to escape what’s behind them, and it’s every man to fend for himself. Eventually, the masks come off, but they’re still running – whether that’s on rooftops, through the forest or between bookshelves in a library. For a moment, they stop to steal a pickup truck (if only to douse it in gasoline and light it on fire). The running commences into the sunset until they disrupt a riotous house party and put on a raucous performance. According to director Brook Linder, “Our aim was to create something that was fun and had a lot of energy. In the end, the overall goal was to create an homage that was equal parts Die Hard 3 meets Point Break meets Lethal Weapon 2 meets True Lies. I think we nailed it”

“Sink / Let It Sway” is full of high energy both in the video and in the song. It’s hard to expect anything less from the Missouri-based indie pop band (who is, of course, named after the first President of Russia). SSLYBY’s latest album effort, which holds the same title, came out late last summer and to solid accolades from the likes of Paste Magazine and NME.Paste, in particular, noted that, “Let It Sway is a feast of musical comfort food for the nostalgia-tripping slacker-chic children of the ’90s. Title track and lead single ‘Sink / Let It Sway’ thrums and pops like vintage Guided By Voices.” It’s also worth recognizing that the album was produced by Death Cab For Cutie’s own Chris Walla in addition to Beau Sorenson (who has worked with both DCFC and Sparklehorse).

There isn’t a doubt in our minds that “Sink / Let It Sway,” the video, will have equal success as Let It Sway, the album. The video has already had a fine debut on NME.com, securing tons of Internet buzz already. We’re thrilled to be working with SSLYBY again and thank the folks over at Polyvinyl Record Co. for handing us another sure-fire hit of a clip.
