Pragnya Wakhlu is a musician, composer and activist based out of New Delhi, India. A strong believer in using the power of music to promote positive change, Pragnya’s work is heavily inspired by the many important issues she’s passionate about. Her latest video release for “Burning Fire” is a perfect depiction of her remarkable talent and drive to help others.

Pragnya’s dedication to music and people led her to quit her corporate job in the U.S. and return to India to make a difference in society. Upon her return to India, Pragnya also began actively writing and performing with her band. She happens to be one of the few independent woman musicians and guitarists in the Indian Independent music circuit. Pragnya went on to release her well-received debut album, Journey to the Sun worldwide in 2012. Journey to the Sun  received numerous music award nominations across the world. Notable amongst them were the prestigious Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) nominations (touted as the Indian Grammy awards) for “Best Music Debut” and “Best Pop Album”, 3rd place award at the Indiego Music Awards (South East Asia) for the “Best Female Vocalist” and nominations for “Best Pop Song” and Best Genre Bending Act”. Not only holding a notable list of achievements in the music world, she is furthermore very active in the service world, playing a part in many fundraising efforts – including participating in music concerts for disaster victims, breast cancer awareness, teaching AIDS workers and patients tools to alleviate stress and partnering with the Genesis Foundation and other non-governmental organizations to organize charitable events.

The Burning Fire music video was exclusively premiered by Rolling Stone Magazine. It captures the emotional experiences of the Tibetan people, conveying the love, unity and closeness connected to the song’s bones. The song aims to bring awareness to the oft ignored and very critical issue of self immolations in the Tibetan community and their struggle to preserve their identity . Showing the resilient, pure, undying spirit of the Tibetan character who are children, religious fixtures, and every day heroes and members in the community, this multi-generational portrait is backed by the soothing soprano of Pragnya as well as her assisting background vocals. Everyone pictured is standing strong, regardless of their experiences and derivations.

It’s a great pleasure to be working with such an inspiration such as Pragnya Wakhlu and the message she is spreading with “Burning Fire.” We hope programmers will be as eager to embrace this video and message as much as we have.
