Here at HIP, we are very excited to share with you the opportunity to revisit a true classic! As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1963 release of “Enamorado”, we are bringing you a brand new visual accompaniment that is every bit as mesmerizing and charming as the song itself. This song has withstood the test of time and generations of music lovers have found themselves singing the infectious hook of “do doobie do” for the past half a century!

Back in 1963, producer Allen D. Allen was recording an artist named Keith Colley for his label Unical. Upon completion of the record Allen still wasn’t convinced it had reached its full potential and he made the decision that the song would be best sung in a romantic language. Colley was able to speak old world Castillian Spanish so Allen instructed lyricist Paul Rubio to pen lyrics that would create the sound he was looking for. For added effect, Allen had a studio technician add in a spoken word section during overdubs. The results were instantaneous, and the song became a smash hit!

The clip, directed by Allen D. Allen’s daughter Corinne, portrays a classic couple dancing at a party. Just as the young man goes to kiss his lover after presenting her with a beautiful necklace, her father intervenes and tries to squash this budding young romance. The necklace falls to the ground and the young man is left standing there to wonder what may have been. We then flash-forward to the present day, and see the very same couple dancing once again! Perhaps making up for a missed opportunity the man (wearing the same jacket!) is able to adorn her with the same necklace from all those years ago. This time instead of her father interrupting, a young child tugs at the skirt of the now older woman and they happily join the rest of their family. The video shows the power of true love, and the representation of this timeless and classic song translates itself into modern times. “Enamorado” introduces those feel good moments of the past and reawakens the tenderness of love that that time period represents.

Classic tunes are classics for a reason, and it is with the best and most noteworthy ones that we find ourselves revisiting the simple days of the past. “Enamorado” is one of those special songs that take us to inviting and loving places that only exist in the past.
