Once you find out that Astronautalis was born to a Texas train man with a nose crooked from bar fights and a pretty Kentucky girl who ran away from home at 17 to become a photographer, it becomes clear that he didn’t stumble into the life of a drifter, he was born into it. With a poet uncle who lived off horse betting and hitchhiking, grandfathers who were spies, sailors, and test pilots, and over 500,000 miles of touring under his own belt, you have to wonder where the tales in Astronautalis’ music end and the life of Andy Bothwell begins.

On his new album, Cut The Body Loose (SideOneDummy Records), Astronautalis delivers another set of tunes of his unmistakeable approach that fuses a fierce hip hop delivery with anything and everything he can get a microphone in front of. This album in particular is saturated with a heavy dose of New Orleans-inspired instrumentation and production, as well as lyrical themes. In particular is the gritty, charged new single for “Running Away From God,” a song that pivots between creole jazz, speaker-rattling bass, and a lyric delivery so hot you’ll be seeking out the nearest first aid kit.

“Running Away From God” is a marathon of a clip that will leave the viewer catching their breath. While many artists talk about how exhausting it can be to make a music video, Astronautalis takes it to another level. Throughout the video he is seen sprinting through the city streets in a frenzy, clearly fearful of whatever lurks just behind him. Eventually, between the hands behind the head and the flashing red and blue lights makes it clear that he’s running from a different kind of “god.” It might be the thousands of shows under his belt or maybe it’s because it is a true story, but his performance is delivered with a blistering laser precision on each and every word.

We’re so thrilled to be a part of the SideOneDummy Records team to help spread the word about this amazing new video. We’ve been keeping up with Astronautalis for many years now and are so psyched to see him linking up with one of our favorite labels! He’ll be on a full national tour this spring, so please let us know if you’d like to catch him when he comes to your area!
