Cities like New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Boston are the main players in the east coast Megalopolis, but head a little ways north and you’ll soon find yourself away from the intensity and grind and in a bastion of creativity and nature in Portland, Maine. Builder of the House, which is comprised of Robert Cimitile and Elliot Heeschen, is a folk pop group from Portland that has not only ingratiated themselves to a New England fan base, but to music fans across the globe. Their new video for “There Is No Hourglass, Only Sand” is one of boundless creativity and vision.

This year the group released Hourglass, a four song EP, on sonaBLAST! Records. This EP is a follow up to their debut EP, I Am A Tidal Wave, and they’ve had songs featured on the the MTV hit show Teen Mom 2, Consequence of Sound, We All Want Someone to Shout For, and others. Their songs are immediately gratifying for their straightforward approach. But the more time you spend with them the more you will see the nuanced music and the intelligent, thoughtful lyrical content as well. It’s music that is worth coming back to time and time again.

Technically speaking, the “There Is No Hourglass, Only Sand” video is a feat unto itself. Though it may look like film in some ways, this video was made by taking 596 still shots, which when played back at 3.17 frames per second matched the tempo of the song. All of the props you see are handmade from paper and cardboard. Some are pinned to the wall while others were suspended by fishing line. But don’t let all of this technical talk let you think that this is all brains and no heart. Quite the contrary. The band and the world they created for the video is charming and inviting and their presence and performances are the true stars of the video.

We’re all very excited to be working with this outstanding group and excited to see how far this dynamic video will go! We are here to hook you up with anything you may need to get this video into your programming, so please don’t be shy about getting in touch.
