Sometimes artists get up on the stage and never come down–but not so when it comes to Alex Woodard, who gets down off the stage, metaphorically speaking, and makes eye contact with his fans.

Alex Woodard, a down-to-earth country singer often compared to John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen, definitely has a to-the-people, for-the-people populist approach to music. He’s performed at the Knitting Factory in New York City, but he’s played at more people’s houses than venues. And if you preorder his upcoming CD, he is willing to peer inside of your head and write you a song. Like rootsy rockers often do, Woodard likes telling stories within his songs, and he sings about everyday people from his own perspective. In this HIP Clip, featured below, he chats with us about his first single, “Hot Moms,” which puts motherhood up on a pedestal. In a society so used to songs about 20-somethings in clubs, Woodard spins us in a new direction, leading us to the conclusion that motherhood is, in fact, sexy.
