HIP Year in Review: 2005
May 22, 2024

Here at HIP Video Promo, we’ve been working hard to promote music videos since the year 2000. It’s important to us to help younger and independent artists get the recognition they deserve, and it’s exciting to be on the ground floor with artists that become household names (and with nearly 4600 videos under our belts in 23 years, there are quite a few). Every Friday, we’ll be sharing a “Flashback Friday” video, where we get to reflect on one of our favorite videos from a few years ago.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a fan of alternative music that doesn’t hold Paramore close to their heart, and it’s easy to see why. In more than a dozen years as a band, they’ve managed to grow with their audience: as their fans have gotten older and more mature, so have their songs- but without losing the passion and relatability that makes so many fans say “Paramore is my favorite band.” They’ve shaped a generation of music fans and proven themselves as a defining artist of the alternative scene over the past decade.

Paramore released their debut album, All We Know Is Falling, on July 26, 2005. Following the album release, the band spent the following year building their fanbase through word-of-mouth and extensive touring. In the fall of 2005 they opened for Simple Plan, followed by tours with the likes of Halifax, My American Heart, Bayside, and The Rocket Summer in early 2006. They spent the summer of 2006 on the Vans Warped Tour and just before hitting the road for a headlining tour (which featured Hit the Lights, Cute Is What We Aim For, and This Providence as support), they released the music video for “Emergency.”

“Emergency” followed “Pressure” as the second single and video to be released from All We Know Is Falling. Williams and co. are shown in an abandoned warehouse, wearing dressy outfits that are torn and covered in dirt; the band members themselves are seen bruised and bloody. But we soon find out that these injuries aren’t real, and the members of Paramore are in fact on the set of a music video. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but delivered with so much passion that we can’t help but watch.

Paramore broke through to the mainstream with their sophomore album Riot! in 2007 and singles like “Misery Business” and “Crushcrushcrush.” All We Know Is Falling reached Number 30 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers chart though it didn’t enter the Billboard 200 upon release. Seven years later however, in 2014, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA. Twelve years since its release, All We Know Is Falling is seen as a classic in its genre, and one that Paramore fans hold dear to their hearts.

We can’t wait to see what Paramore do next, and we can’t wait to see who becomes the next break-out artist. Do you think your video has what it takes to be the next break-out smash hit?
