From outer space to right at home, we are delighted to share three new music videos today. The latest HIP Picks – Weekly Client Roundup is here; take a look at the videos, and learn more about the clips by reading below.
On “The Ballad of Elvis Presley”, Josie Cotton (who first broke through with her 1982 singles “Johnny, Are You Queer?” and “He Could Be The One”) and Kevin Preston (frontman of the punk band Primma Donna) pay glorious tribute to the King. The video was directed by photographer Piper Ferguson (Placebo, Save Ferris, Miranda Lee Richards), and takes the duo to a real American ghost town out west.
With a West Indian background, Toronto roots, and Miami upbringing, Ricci Bamboo has the experience and versatility to flourish in the music industry. “Papa” is a tribute to the inspirational men he’s been surrounded by. The “Papa” video (directed by Thomas Obewu) is a celebration of self-confidence, encouraging men to be brave and better themselves.
Having grown up in public – she’s appeared on the nationally syndicated programs Ariel & Zoey & Eli Too and Steal The Show – Jojo Engelbert has established herself as a vocalist in her own right, with an impressive social media following. “Sweet n Sour”, a collaboration with her brother Eli (YETIBEAR) comes as an intoxicating warning. The video (directed by Matt Engelbert) presents Jojo as a badass, showcasing multiple hairstyles and makeup looks as she sings to the camera.
First-rate singer-songwriter Neil Nathan has been taking the music industry by storm since 2007 with his debut EP, Glide. “Be Still My Ever Beaten Heart” follows “The Folly of War” and comes in anticipation of the album Blue Sky Wide Open. The song digs back to Nathan’s folk-rock roots, and the video (directed by Kevin Shaw & Cole Decker) was shot in his own home.
The Roughhousers (prolific singer and voice acttress Grey DeLisle and rocker Eddie Clendening, along with Deke Dickerson, pianist Carl Sonny Leland, bassist Murry Hammond of The Old 97s, and X’s drummer DJ Bonebrake) are once again here with family-friend songs that children and adults will enjoy! Their latest single is “Baby Brother”, a take on Bill Carter’s rockabilly classic, and its animated video (directed by Neuman Mannas) matches the upbeat quality of the song.
Singer/songwriter IZ.M.B, beat producer Grizz La Flare, and lyricist Gary Bernard join together as Gorilla Apocalypse, an extraordinary creative collective under Blue Collar Record. “Tornado” covers extreme devotion to someone who’s a whirlwind of unpredictability, and the lyric video (directed by Anthony Craparotta) perfectly conveys the lyrical chaos onscreen.
New York artist Christian Parker takes influence from the greats (think ELO, Crowded House, Badfinger, and, of course, The Beatles), but has a voice all his own on “Diamond Sailor.” Morgan Elliott’s animated clip shows how the guitar can be a tool for liberation, as we see a young boy whose future is wide open but who struggles to define himself.
