Hello everybody, it’s Andy Gesner and the gang from HIP Video Promo, here to share the latest clip from the biggest, wildest, most rambunctious blues band ever to play the Vans Warped Tour. Reverend Peyton knows: when he plays his guitar, people can’t help but dance. Not just country people; all kinds of people, from all over the world. So being such a magnanimous sort, the Reverend has invited people from all over the world to a place where he’s comfortable — a barn in the middle of his native Indiana, complete with chickens — and turned them loose on a makeshift dance floor. Accompanied by his Big Damn Band, Peyton hollers out an exhortation to “Clap Your Hands”, and his guests do just that, and much more. This multicultural barn-raising has been captured on film by Kevin Custer (Flogging Molly, Gaslight Anthem, many world-famous hip-hop videos) and brought to you by The Reverend himself, and all the higher power he can muster.

You wouldn’t necessarily think that a man with a country guitar, a drummer who uses an upside-down pail for a floor tom, and a washboard-scraper would be embraced by Warped Tour concertgoers — but if you doubt it, you’d be dead wrong. The Reverend Peyton’s explosive, infectious act has been embraced by punks of all kinds, and this summer, by popular demand, they’ll be crashing across America with Warped Tour once again. And this year, they’ll have a brand new set of material to pull from: The Wages, their third and most multi-faceted album.

“Clap Your Hands” is the firestarter — the latest call to party from a man who has sparked too many to count. But The Wageshe’s singing about here aren’t just those of sin: the Reverend Peyton has an acute feel for economic distress, and his political songs are among the most compassionate in the contemporary underground. “Everything’s Raising” is a big-hearted — but coldly accurate — account of the state of the world as seen from Peyton’s small town. And “In A Holler Over There” examines American farming culture with wit, smarts, and black humor.

To watch The Reverend Peyton in concert is to be amazed — every part of his body moves with the music, and his performances are wholly possessed and enormously energetic (He hasn’t been likened to “Robert Johnson on crack” for nothing.) Kevin Custer captures that stage charisma in his clip for “Clap Your Hands”; there’s plenty of footage of the other two members of the Big Damn Band, too. But what’s most remarkable about the video is how the “guest dancers” rise to the occasion and match The Reverend’s frenetic intensity. Country line dancers, Indian bhangra artists, B-boys, circus freaks, businesspeople in suits looking to loosen up and cut a rug: they all take their turn, twirling, kicking, and just plain freaking out.
