Kindest regards to everyone in the music video community! It’s Andy Gesner and the staff from HIP Video Promo, back with another dynamic clip from one of our favorite bands. It’s our great pleasure to continue the work we’ve done with our friends at Drive-Thru Records by bringing you the latest video from The Early November. When last we sent you a clip starring the scruffily irresistible Ace Enders, he was fronting I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business, his tuneful semi-acoustic side project. “The Best Happiness Money Can Buy”, the single from I Can Make A Mess, was near-country in its simplicity and earnestness. So just in case you’ve forgotten how fiercely Enders can rock, here’s “The Mountain Range In My Living Room” – arguably the most scorching cut on The Room’s Too Cold, and a passionately-delivered testament of frustration and release.

But as any fan of Enders’s work – and they are legion, especially here in his native New Jersey – can tell you, he’s a multifaceted songwriter who moves comfortably between genres. Few punk records are arranged with the care or imagination of The Room’s Too Cold. The Early November is unafraid to use strings and electric piano, and Enders can choke out a ballad with the emotional authority of a true penitent. The Room’s Too Cold has become one of the most esteemed albums in Drive-Thru’s catalog, and powerful proof that poised artistry and emo intensity are not mutually exclusive commodities. The extent to which this album has resonated with thoughtful listeners of contemporary punk can not be overstated.

The critical acclaim of The Room’s Too Cold has prompted Drive-Thru to re-release the album. This time, the label is leading with “The Mountain Range In My Living Room”, a concert favorite, and one of the first Early November tracks made available for download through the label’s website. It’s easy to see why followers of the band have responded so powerfully to the cut – its nagging guitar riff and manic, insistent chorus grab the listener by the collar. Enders has never attempted to obscure the painful break-up that inspired much of The Room’s Too Cold; here, a kind of bleak nostalgia.

In the clip, the band performs in front of a large, almost stately suburban home set on spacious grounds. The performance footage is suitably energetic, but its main function here is to serve as the framework for the dramatic story line. This consists of a young woman, in a simple yet still elegant back dress, meandering through the interior of the house. In contrast to the bright and colorful exterior shots of the band, she’s seen mainly in shades of grey as she moves down a staircase or gazes out a window, backlit by the setting sun. When she makes her way into the living room, the framed portraits on the wall and on the mantle begin to speak to her, but in the end, they don’t have many meaningful things to say.
